We have some of the only trainers in the Denver area who do scent detection training.
Reach out today: 303-968-6060.
We will assess your dog’s ability to become trained as a service animal during our sessions.
Rates vary depending on need.
Every dog needs clear, confident leadership.
Dogs thrive when expectations are consistent, communication is clear, and the people they live with provide calm direction they can trust. Our training focuses on helping owners become effective leaders through structure, consistency, timing, and communication.
Rather than relying on quick fixes, we teach practical skills that create lasting behavioral change at home and in everyday life. Every dog is different. We evaluate each case individually and build a training plan around the dog’s temperament, history, and the family’s goals.
We do not offer boarding sessions, as owner involvement is essential for lasting results. It is imperative that we establish you as your dog’s leader.
In other words, you need to be there during the dog training sessions!
Through multiple sessions, our Denver dog trainer will teach you and your dog the proper signals for the desired behavior.
These sessions are conducted either at our trainers’ homes (Littleton, Colorado or Aurora, Colorado), or at the client’s home (available locations).
Dog behavior training sessions are performed inside our trainer’s home in Littleton, Colorado, or in the client’s home within a limited driving radius from Denver (listed above).
If you’re outside of these areas, you can come to us! We have even welcomed a client who drove 4 hours from Aspen/Snowmass to meet with us!
Significant discounts are provided to clients who travel to our trainers for sessions in Littleton or Aurora.
Every dog is different! They all have variations in temperaments, histories, and needs. Some behaviors and skills will require more sessions than others.
As such, we do not have a standard rate.
Instead, Denver dog behaviorist trainers prefer to offer a free phone consultation. We will learn about your dog and its specific needs. After that, he will be able to provide an estimate based on the number of sessions he will need to meet your training goals.
Yes, there are trainers in the area who have lower, published rates. However, what is more important: rates or results?
Our team has 40 years of experience and a proven track record of results. Take a look at our reviews, and you can see what we mean!

Dog Behaviorist Denver was founded by Bruce Allen.
After a careful search, Bruce personally selected and mentored Joe Riley to continue serving clients using the same training philosophy and standards.
Bruce remains available as a mentor during the transition.
“When I decided to move out of state, I knew I had to leave the business in capable hands. Joe is an incredible trainer who absolutely loves dogs and seeing the joy their progression brings to their owners. I have enjoyed working with him and know he will continue to provide the top-quality training we have become known for.”
—Bruce Allen, Founder, Dog Behaviorist Denver
Born in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Joseph Riley (“Joe”) developed a lifelong appreciation for animals and the outdoors before eventually making his way to the Denver metro area.
Over the years, his passion for dogs grew into a dedicated pursuit of canine behavior and training. He has spent years studying dog behavior, working hands-on with dogs of all breeds and temperaments, and continuing his education through professional training programs while gaining practical experience with everyday family dogs and more challenging behavioral cases.
Joe’s commitment to understanding canine behavior eventually led him to mentor under veteran dog behaviorist Bruce Allen. Working alongside Bruce, Joe has continued to refine his ability to evaluate behavior, coach owners, and develop practical training plans that create lasting change.
Today, Joe is proud to carry Dog Behaviorist Denver into its next chapter while preserving the values that have built its reputation: clear communication, consistent expectations, and helping owners develop the skills their dogs need to succeed for life.
Bruce Allen was born and raised in Denver. He has been working in dog behavior training since 1986.
Bruce studied under a master dog behaviorist trainer in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he obtained the SV license (Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde). The SV sets training standards for dogs in conformation and working disciplines, including the famous Schutzhund (now known as IGP, Internationale Gebrauchshund Prüfungsordnung).
Bruce worked for the Humane Society for 15 years as the Cruelty and Abuse Director. He has made appearances on television for his expertise in dog behavior training. He appeared with veterinarian Dr. Tom Watson on “For Pet’s Sake”, filmed in Charlotte, North Carolina, and syndicated in various parts of the country. Bruce was also featured throughout a telethon for The Humane Society.
Bruce loves all dogs, but German Shepherds hold a special place in his heart. Not only are they intelligent and trainable, but they are also strong, loving, and protective. He is pictured above with his dog, Mija, whom he trained as a service animal.
Our founder, Denver dog behaviorist trainer Bruce, was with a client when they witnessed a terrible accident. Bruce showed calm under pressure and balanced helping someone in need with caring for his client.
Dora the Pit Bull is an animal cruelty survivor. She was rescued and adopted into a loving home, but she was showing signs of aggression and PTSD.
Sheri and Howard bought Yogi the Cockapoo as a puppy. At just 7 months old, he was already becoming a problem for his owners.
“Working with Bruce has made Babs much more calm and a much better listener. He has given us the tools to communicate with her in ways that make her feel more safe and secure in daily life. He has taught us that sometimes, even the smallest changes in the way we communicate with our dogs can have a profound impact.”
“I highly recommend Bruce. I started working with him several months ago for obedience training and reactivity issues for my 1 year old bernedoodle. I have worked with several trainers before, both in group and individual settings, and while they were all fine and my dog learned some good behaviors, she has progressed the most with Bruce.”
“We had a biting goldendoodle we were not sure we would be able to keep. But thanks to Bruce’s training, our dog is sweet, snuggly, and obedient! We can even walk her off leash! Thanks Bruce!”
